The ex PAOK’s Head Coach has been announced by AEK Athens on a 2 years contract, that runs through summer 2021, a couple of days after parting ways with Luca Banchi.
The 44-year-old coach arrives to AEK from fellow Greek League rival PAOK Thessaloniki where he spent the previous two seasons.
Throughout his career, Papatheodorou has coached Astana (2016-17), as well as the U18, U19, U20 Greek National Team, while he began his career in A1 with the awesome team (those days) of AEN Kifisias in A1) among others.
Paralalel to that AEK Athens after bring in the Greek Head Coach, there will be some kind of advantage over the other teams in the Greek league, over the ex-members of the Greek NT U20 and U 18 as Ilias Papatheodorou as head coach of the Greek NT knows them very well, among others and after the negative answer by Gikas of Promitheas who will stay in the Patras team, is Vassilis Toliopoulos which eventually will be the first addition.
The sides are in advanced talks and the negotiations have been very positive. The final agreement on a three-year deal seems to only be a matter of time.
The 23-year-old guard started the last season with Olympiacos before moving to Aris. In the Greek League, he averaged 6.2 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists while shooting 32.9% from behind the arc.
