Panathinaikos – the permanent Greek champion in basketball added another trophy; the 38th title is a fact, after sweeping the solid team of Promitheas Patras with 3-0 and closed another successful season with Ric Pitino’s signatures with a double and a position in the top 8 teams of the Euroleague.
Panathinaikos was decisive in the third and final game of the best of five final series of this stage and from the start of the game showed its intentions. The awesome 31-8 of the first minutes can tell a lot toeverybody. Panathinaikos which coached professionally (even though the title was already set) by Rick Pitino had another great game.
The score of the first quarter was ( 31-8). Obviously the game was over, but Promitheas tried to be competitive. The hosts led by 28 points at halftime (62-34). Promitheas made an attempt to equalize match in the third quarter, but the hosts remained as leader (86-53). Promitheas players were exhausted and Panathinaikos won easily the game ( 111-77).
Panathinaikos won its 38th Basketleague championship, being the top team in the country with the second team having only 12 titles and it is obviously that the Greens will remain for many years at the top spot of the country!!
